Carlos has aided clients for 30 years with psychotherapy and case management services. Carlos realized he had the passion for counseling at the age of 16 years old, as this is when he began working with younger youth providing leadership and mentorship in a recreational setting. Carlos’ approaches used for couples counseling is CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused, and active listening. The special connection Carlos had with a client was when he was working with a young lady that was being seen for anxiety and substance use. Carlos was able to provide her with insight, enlightenment, and education that opened her up to a reality that she had never experienced before. Carlos has the great ability to listen presently and intently to the experience of the person. Carlos has the exceptional ability to be empathetic, mindful, and use sense of humor to empower the individual to be self-aware and motivate them to action to change and grow beyond what they realized was possible. Carlos can assist the client to have trust, openness, and comfortability to expel and share things in their lives that they have never shared with anyone else before. Carlos knows when it is a good fit with a couple when the couple feels they are both being heard equally, they both feel safe to share their feelings/thoughts in ways they have not done so in their relationship. The couple feels energized, feels passionate about the therapeutic process. Carlos enjoys studying spiritual concepts, reading, gaining knowledge, exercising, watching/playing sports, and comedy shows/movies in his spare time. Carlos assists clients with finding their meaning/purpose, happiness, wellness, recovery, and enlightenment. Carlos has worked with many different populations and environments such as youth/children, veterans, those considered SMI, addiction, young/mature aged adults, many different cultures, and diverse backgrounds. Carlos has provided these services in settings such as hospitals, clinics, outpatient/inpatient environments, crisis centers, and health coaching.
